Cross-Docking vs Transloading: Why People Keep Mixing Them Up
If you move freight through Tampa long enough, you will hear these two terms used interchangeably: “Can you cross-dock this container?” “We just need a quick transload.” “It’s basically the same thing, right?” On paper, cross-docking and transloading sound similar. Freight comes in. Freight goes out. No long-term storage. Simple. On the warehouse floor, they are not the same. Mixing them up causes missed appointments, blown budgets, and a lot of last-minute emergency calls. We deal with this confusion every week at Warehousing Etc. Importers, brokers, carriers, even experienced shippers sometimes use the wrong term for the job they actually need done.

We provide Tampa warehousing services from our main location at 6708 North 54th St. Tampa, FL 33610. We also have a second location in West Tampa.
We can handle most goods that are non-hazardous and do not require climate control.
All locations can handle pallets that are 8’, or shorter, and 5k lbs. or less. Inquire if you have freight outside these specs; we may be able to help.
Our locations can handle flat bed, dry van, cargo vans & pickups, and containers.
No. At this time our locations are all ambient storage.
We can accommodate urgent move-in when required. Appointments are required. Once rates are agreed upon and paperwork is complete we can start to receive freight.
It normally takes 1 to 3 hours to unload an ocean container. Factors that impact the time to unload include: the size of the container, if the freight is palletized or loose loaded, and how many pallets or cartons are in the container.
If most of the truckload is shifted it normally takes 2 to 4 hours to work the load, depending on the condition of the load and how many units are on each pallet. If only a few pallets need restacked, then the process is normally 1 hour or less.
